Talk:Classes of nano-assembled products

Mike Deering wrote that any advanced product would include assembly and disassembly capability. To me, this is like saying that any advanced car would include an oil refinery.
Assembly is useless without feedstock, and a feedstock processor would probably be quite big (e.g. microfluidic).
Eutactic disassembly is very difficult and may not be possible at room temperature, since it'll be very hard to sense the position and bonds of the atoms, much less design a mechanochemical reaction on the fly for each atom. Disassembly is for research, not rebuilding. If you want to rebuild something, burn it and start over.
